About Us

One great thing about fishing is that for most of us,  when on the water fishing, even If we don’t catch a fish,  we still enjoy the day on the water simply by appreciating the beauty of nature, the comradery of family and friends, and the peace and solitude of being on the water.

However, we think most of you would agree that any day spent fishing is greatly enhanced by successfully catching some fish.  The more fish, and the larger the fish, the better.

Fishing Strategies and Tactics™ is dedicated to helping anglers of all types and skill levels improve their fishing experiences and increase their catch rate for whatever type of gamefish they pursue, on whatever types of waters they fish.

We accomplish this by providing you with revolutionary and comprehensive strategic and tactical fishing information which we guarantee will result in you catching more and larger fish of all species.  This information is provided to you through our series of online courses, our eBook, and our Fishing Advisory Services.

The genesis of launching Fishing Strategies and Tactics™ was that while there is a litany of “how to” fishing information available to anglers, most of this information is at best limited
to providing very basic or “getting started” information, tips, and situational specific advice resulting in anglers having a fragmented understanding of how to go about finding and catching fish on a daily and seasonal basis and limited ability and insight to take the information provided for one situation or tactic and apply it to a different situation.

Far less information is available to anglers that provides them with a holistic, comprehensive understanding of all the important components needed to develop a successful fishing strategy and execution plan, i.e. a “framework”, which would enable anglers develop and tacticlly execute on successful fishing strategies in a variety of different fishing situations.

This reality is the basis for us developing our Framework for Fishing Success™.   Nearly sixty years ago Chuck Bishirjian, the founder of Fishing Strategies and Tactics caught his first fish, a catfish from a city pond in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania at the age of three.   He was “hooked” from that humble beginning, and over the past fifty-nine years or so he has been fortunate enough to have put thousands of days on the water pursuing many different species of gamefish in many different places around the world.

While Chuck has taken many guided “exotic” trips to remote lands pursuing many different and some exotic species,  most of his days on the water have been spent fishing on his own for warm, cool, and cold water species in natural lakes, reservoirs, creeks, rivers, streams and inshore coastal situations in our great United States. (See Chuck’s full Bio below).

Over time, Chuck noticed that at a fundamental level,  the information or factors he used to develop his daily  fishing strategy  to consistently catch gamefish, the types of areas and situations he looked for and found gamefish, and how he went about presenting his offerings to the gamefish were more similar than different no matter where he was fishing and what species of gamefish he was targeting.   In other words, over the years he had developed in his mind a universal framework for fishing success that is applicable to virtually all fishing situations.

Fishing Strategies and Tactics™ documents Chuck’s universal “Framework for Fishing Success™” through its courses, eBook and Fishing Advisory Services.  If you embrace it, and learn to apply it to your fishing situations, we guarantee you will catch more and larger gamefish no matter what species or venue.

Our Framework for Fishing Success™ provides anglers with a holistic yet pragmatic strategic framework outlining all of the components and considerations to develop a successful fishing strategy and execution plan that is applicable to virtually all fishing situations and environmental conditions.

At the core of our Framework for Fishing Success™ is an understanding of how gamefish live, their habits, their instincts, how weather and water conditions affect them, where they are likely to be found under various conditions, and what it takes to catch him.

There are no shortcuts or “secret” offerings (lure, fly or bait) to fishing success.  Only a thorough understanding of the key elements of success, and the proper application of these elements to your fishing situation will assure consistent catches.   Our Framework for Fishing Success™ provides you with the information you need to become a more successful angler, whatever your current skill level and success rate.

Our Framework for Fishing Success™ provides anglers with what key fish biology and environmental inputs you need to know when considering your strategy, specific insight into where (and how) to find your targeted gamefish (initially in the various types of reservoirs and natural lakes), and once an informed decision is made as to where to fish, how to catch your targeted gamefish by providing you with the key factors to consider in selecting a fishing method, selecting and presenting your offerings (lures, flies or natural bait), and “how to” execution examples of coverage models to use when fishing most if not all of the fishing situations you are likely to encounter under various environmental conditions.

Our Framework and courses are designed to help anglers of all experience and skill levels, recreational or tournament oriented, with the possible exception of rank beginners, who should seek the plethora of information available elsewhere to get up to speed on “the basics” of tackle types, casting instruction, knots, etc. before taking our courses.  Rank beginners should click on our "View our educational offerings" button below and receive a free  “Getting Started”  document which recommends where to go to get started and summarizes some of the key elements of our course offerings.

For all other anglers, whether you are new to the sport or a seasoned veteran, we are confident that our online courses and/or Fishing Advisory Services offers the information you need to make you a great angler. If you invest the time to learn and apply our Framework for Fishing Success™ we are confident that you will:

1.      Significantly increase your catch rate.
2.      Land more lunkers.
3.      Vastly improve your fishing experiences, and
4.      Provide you with a newfound confidence and the ability to develop and execute on successful fishing                       strategies on your  home waters and when fishing new or less familiar waters.

The fact is that 10% of the anglers catch 90% of the gamefish.   If you explore the reasons for this, you will find that the 10% of the anglers who catch most of the gamefish have invested the effort in understanding the species they target,  the waters that they fish, and the presentation considerations that they must apply to catch them.   Their success comes not by accident but by knowledge and experience.

However, even for anglers who have mastered their home waters, the question remains whether they can go and fish new waters and quickly experience similar success?

Chuck looks at each fishing situation as solving a puzzle.   Whatever species and whatever waters you fish, this universal framework should be applied each day you are on the water.

Different species may require some variation, and different methods may work better or worse in a given situation, but in the end, it’s all about successfully applying our Framework for Fishing Success™ to your current situation.  If properly applied, it will result in a more successful and satisfying day on the water.

Make no mistake, unless you are fishing in some remote or exotic waters or rely on paying guides to show you where and how to catch your targeted gamefish, most of the time, making a decent catch of gamefish can be challenging even for veteran anglers.  The goal of Fishing Strategies and Tactics is to provide you with the information and tools you need to know to substantially increase your odds of consistently catching more and larger gamefish.

We hope you will seriously consider purchasing our eBook or taking our “Framework for Fishing Success™” online courses and we are here for you if you want more personalized support available through our Fishing Advisory Services.  We at Fishing Strategies and Tactics™ are dedicated to your fishing success and taking your fishing to the next level!

Chuck Bishirjian's Bio

Chuck Bishirjian in his 2010 Lund Predator on his home waters of Lake Lanier, GA.

Chuck was born and grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and is an ardent Steelers fan. His father introduced him to fishing, hunting and the sporting life.

His first fish was a catfish caught out of a city park pond when he was three.  Chuck wanted to keep the fish as a pet in a milk box used for deliveries by the milkman, and apparently, he was quite upset when he was told that was not possible.

Chuck was fortunate to spend many days in his youth with his father who taught him a deep appreciation of, and respect for, of the great outdoors and sportsmanship.  Chuck almost always practices catch and release although he has no problem with anglers who want to keep some fish for the frying pan.

What really “hooked” Chuck on fishing was his first fishing trip to Ontario, Canada, fishing the Rideau Chain of Lakes with his father and uncle when he was five.   Chuck was having such a ball catching bluegills and rock bass off the dock of the lodge, he was at first a little reluctant to go out in the boat, but his dad talked him into it.   As fate would have it, the first evening out Chuck cast a crippled minnow surface lure near a stump surrounded by lily pads and a nice four pound largemouth erupted on the lure.  That was it.  He was “hooked” for life.

During his childhood and teenage years, Chuck primarily fished the natural lakes, reservoirs, rivers and streams of Western Pennsylvania and Western New York fishing for a variety of warm and cold water species including: large and smallmouth bass, walleye, muskie, northern pike, trout and Great Lakes steelhead, along with several trips to Canada.  He fished with fly and conventional tackle and started tying flies when he was about 12, taking a Trout Unlimited fly-tying class.

His first job at fifteen was with a fly shop that opened near his home.  As a result, he become a certified “Cortland Fishing Pro” before being eventually let go after being falsely accused of using his store discount to buy and resell tackle.   It seems Chuck bought so much equipment, the owner could not believe he was using it all for himself... but he was.

As an adult, Chuck has been fortunate to have traveled and fished a variety of different situations in North America and internationally for many species of gamefish.  His trips of the past 35 years or so have been primarily focused on fly fishing but he is well versed in fishing all types of tackle and methods, and he has extensive experience in fishing for all types of freshwater gamefish species and inshore saltwater species where he has consistently and successfully applied his universal “Framework for Fishing Success™”.

However, his specialty is figuring out what it takes to catch the fish in local and distant waters on his own.

As for local fishing, Lake Lanier a.k.a. “the pond” has been Chuck's home water for the past twenty years, primarily because it is close to his home, where he primarily targets striped, largemouth and spotted bass out of his black 20 foot Lund Predator boat.

Throughout his fishing career Chuck developed and has applied his universal Framework for Fishing Success to catch many different species of fish in all types of waters.  In 2020 Chuck decided to document his Framework and dedicate himself to educating anglers on his Framework to help anglers become more successful in catching more and larger gamefish. The result of these efforts is the development of these initial fishing courses and the launch of Fishng Strategies and Tactics in 2021.  Chuck has plans to greatly expand the site to cover more topics and multimedia formats over time.

Chuck would like to thank all of you who have invested in your fishing education by taking his online courses, and he welcomes the opportunity to further assist you by taking advantage of his Fishing Advisory Services.  His ultimate objective is to increase your fishing success and enhance your angling experience so you can get the most out of the sport you love.

Chuck holds a B.A. in Economics from Dickinson College, a J.D. degree from the University of Houston, and an M.B.A. from the University of Pittsburgh.   He spent 20 years in the high-tech industry working in sales, marketing and consulting positions with IBM, Cray Research, et al.  He also founded Pro-Techt, which for twenty years designed, manufactured and distributed a unique portable shade targeting the fishing and boating industry.

Fishing Strategies and Tactics is dedicated to my late parents Chuck and Kay, and my wife Patty.

To my Dad, Chuck, who was my favorite fishing partner, and who taught me sportsmanship, and to know and appreciate the great outdoors. I am forever grateful for the fond memories of the many, many days on the water and in the woods and field spent with a true patriot and sportsman.

To my mother, Kay, who always loved and supported me . . . and dad’s and my many trips without her.  She was a living example of high integrity, hard work, humility, service, and compassion without compromise. Her life was an example for those of us who are left behind.

To my wife Patty, the love of my life who never complains when I want to go fishing.
